Georgetown Scouting Program
San Gabriel Presbyterian decided to serve as the charter organization for the scout troop Venturing Crew 911 and Ship 911. The troop consists of boys and girls ages 14 - 21, with an emphasis on disaster/emergency response. In 2008, the boys Cub Scout Pack 2338 was organized and began meeting at San Gabriel. In 2012, a new girl scout troop was formed which is sponsored by and also meets at SGPC.
To further support the scouting program, half of the proceeds from the San Gabriel Pumpkin Patch are donated to the various scouting programs. Here, Scout Master, Steven Polos, is presented with a check from San Gabriel.
SGPC will serve even more fully as a friend to the nearly eighty scouts and their leaders and families who meet at the Church on Monday evenings through the volunteer scout chaplain program. Specifically, SGPC chaplains will provide a spiritual tone for meetings and camping experiences by offering prayer and/or designing brief worship services. It is hoped that through future scout/chaplain relationships, the scouts will grow in their relationship with God and each other, and families who do not have a church home will feel welcome to join the SGPC community.
Each year SGPC honors scouting in our community with a worship service in February in which the scouts participate in many aspects of the service. m
